Luke Wright: Your New Favourite Poet

Delivered with all the joy, mischief and affection of a storytime for excitable children, Luke Wright’s poetry tells the tales of his life, interests and loves. From ‘The Ballad Of Raul Moat’, darkly constructed and spoken from the small scarlet velvet-clad stage by Wright in smart gentlemanly attire (waistcoat, cravat and pocket watch present and correct), to his splendidly honest and endearing description in couplets of being a parent in ‘Weekday Dad’, Wright was engaging throughout. Gentle in his articulate Essex accent, and hardly provocative, even if he was sometimes political, but engaging with his charming wordsmithery, Wright’s likeable delivery forgave his occasional stumblings and won over the room sweetly by the end of this highly civilised Friday night.
