Calexico

Calexico aren’t very rock ‘n’ roll, but they seem like nice chaps, performing their brand of middle-of-the-road rock music tinged with latin and americana styles with smiley conviction. Seven musicians created a full, rounded sound, and the two spirited trumpeters went down well with the crowd. A cover of Love’s ‘Alone Again Or’ got everyone dancing, and the experienced touring band knew how to work up a crowd and create a good atmosphere. The songs are perhaps a little bland and formulaic, but it was a solid and fun gig. Calexico seem like a kindly reliable aunt rather than a cool older brother.
