Brighton charity thanks former addict after fundraising run

A Brighton charity thanked a recovering heroin and alcohol addict for his fundraising efforts last night (Thursday 21 February).

James Danks raised the money when he ran the Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday (17 February) as a thank you to Brighton Housing Trust (BHT) for helping him to become abstinent.

He also completed the run – in 1 hour and 42 minutes – in memory of his late wife Zoe.

He was part of Team BHT, made up of 22 staff, supporters and clients, who raised more than £3,000 for the housing and homeless charity.

At the event last night BHT presented a prize to Anna Thompson for raising £570 for BHT’s Hastings Young People’s Service and becoming the top fundraiser in the team.

Liz Davies, BHT fundraising officer, said: “Our team of runners all did brilliantly and we wanted to show our appreciation for what has been a huge challenge for everyone involved.

“We really can’t thank everyone enough for their commitment to training and sponsorship, they have all been fantastic.”
