I Am Kloot
Attending church to listen to Mancunians renowned for singing of drink and disaster is an interesting juxtaposition. Presenting themselves with self-deprecating kitchen sink directness (and taunting the dry audience with cans of Fosters), the band swept seamlessly through material from their six albums, ranging from rocking out to a solo set piece. Despite singer John Bramwell declaring it possibly the most difficult gig ever, the sepulchral acoustics of a 135ft ceiling proved a fine fit for what are, on the whole, profoundly soulful songs that address skies, space and stones as well as intemperate behaviour. All in all a spiritual experience.
