Brighton drugs gang trial due to start

The trial of four men from Brighton, who are accused of being part of a drugs gang, is due to start at Hove Crown Court today (Monday 25 February).

They are due in court with two men from Merseyside. All six are accused of conspiring to supply heroin.

The men were arrested in an operation that ran in Brighton and Liverpool between September 2011 and February last year.

They six are

  • Ian Edwards, 29, of Haywards Road, Brighton
  • Paul Croston, 24, of Cashman Lodge, Brighton
  • Gary Ord, 33, of Merevale, Brighton
  • David Fitzsimmons, 46, of Phoenix Rise, Brighton
  • David Fitzsimmons, 46, of Phoenix Rise, Brighton
  • Stephen Radcliffe, 44, of Guildford Avenue, Bootle, Merseyside

Their arrests involved officers from Sussex Police working as part of Operation Reduction.

The force said that Op Reduction was the partnership initiative aimed at disrupting drug dealing and tackling drug abuse in Brighton and Hove.

In the most recent phase of activity, 54 people have been arrested and a London drugs gang has been disrupted.

The gang was bringing class A drugs into the area with an approximate street value of £46,000.
