Celeb City: Fatboy Slim rocks the Commons

Record-breaking Fatboy Slim, Brighton’s Geordie Shore star, Rizzle Kicks & Brighton Japan Festival

Fatboy Slim rocks the Commons
Our friend and favourite DJ Fatboy Slim will make history on Wednesday 6 March as he becomes the first DJ to ever perform at The House Of Commons. The Portslade-based DJ is playing at the famous London venue to celebrate the final of House The House competition. The competition is in aid of the Last Night A DJ Saved My Life Foundation (lastnightadjsavedmylife.org). Fatboy Slim will support the lucky act that wins on the night. We are still reliving the memories of last year’s fantastic Big Beach Bootique 5 at The Amex, and often have the amazing set playing in the office. What a fantastic two-day event that was. Norman Cook will most certainly rock the Commons this week!

Brighton Japan Festival returns
Now in its fifth fantastic year, Brighton Japan Festival has launched its 2013 website (www.brightonjapan.com), marking the return of the UK’s largest annual celebration of Japanese culture! The brainchild of Brighton’s premier Japanese restaurant, Moshimo, the ever-growing festival is now inviting sponsors to get involved with what promises to be a record-breaking year.

Quadrupling in size for 2013, the Brighton Japan Festival has announced its new home in the heart of Brighton’s bustling seaside scene: the Old Steine Gardens. Over a week of events celebrating Japanese arts, film, theatre, performance and culture will run from 14–22 September, cementing Brighton Japan as the benchmark for Japanese festivals in the UK. We expect to see a celeb or two dropping by so keep your eye peeled and join us in celebrating Japanese culture.

The Brighton girl behind Geordie Shore’s Stag nights
The Stag Company’s administration manager Sam Jackson, 24, from Hollingdean, recently made her TV debut on one of MTV’s biggest shows: Geordie Shore. Scheduled to appear in two exciting episodes of the reality TV show, Sam was personally selected by MTV bosses to appear as a Stag Do expert and was flown to Amsterdam for the filming. During the filming, Sam was required to mentor the Geordie Shore cast and judge them on their ability to manage and organise stag do activities. These stag parties took place in two of Europe’s top party destinations: Amsterdam and Prague.

“It was an amazing experience having the opportunity to work with MTV and appear on Geordie Shore,” says Sam. who has been working with The Stag Company for the last five years. “I am a big fan of the show and loved working with the crew and cast.” The episodes aired on MTV last week.

Rizzle Kicks join the Isle Of Wight Festival line-up
Our favourite hip-hop Brighton boys Rizzle Kicks have been added to the line-up of the Isle of Wight Festival this year, along with Everything Everything and Delilah who both played brilliant gigs recently here in the city.

John Giddings, the festival’s promoter, said: “Now that the line-up is complete, I am really excited for this year’s festival. “We have something for everyone.” Other acts already announced include headliners The Stone Roses, The Killers and Bon Jovi as well as Paul Weller, Emeli Sande, Ke ha, Ben Howard, Jake Bugg, The Script, Bloc Party, Paloma Faith, The Maccabees, Ellie Goulding, FUN, Blondie and Devlin. Rizzle Kicks have been announced alongside ’80s pop favoutite, T’Pau.

The event will take place at Seaclose Park, Newport, 13–16 June. Talking of Rizzle Kicks, we know their favourite hangout is Nandos, Brighton, where we spotted pop star turned song writer Samuel Preston. We saw the former Celebrity Big Brother housemate looking very cute in his glasses and skinny jeans.
