Fresh snow warning for Brighton and Hove

The Met Office has issued a fresh snow warning for Brighton and Hove for tomorrow (Monday 11 March) and Tuesday (12 March).

The severe weather warning covers the south east of England and forecasts more than an inch of snow and a strong easterly wind exacerbating the cold temperatures.

The warning said: “A spell of sleet and snow is expected, starting in the early hours of Monday morning in south west England and affecting southern England more widely by the end of the morning.

“Snow will be accompanied by a strong easterly wind which will accentuate the very cold feel.

“Accumulations of 2cm to 4cm of snow could occur quite widely over southern counties.

“There is a risk that snow will continue to fall across parts of south east England on Tuesday morning, bringing the potential for further accumulations of 3cm to 5 cm of snow.

“The snow will be accompanied by northeasterly strong winds, making it feel very cold.

“The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel.”

The Met Office said that its severe weather warnings were issued based on the likelihood of the event happening and the impact that the conditions may have.

Brighton and Hove City Council said: “There is the possibility of snow towards the end of this weekend, with sleet and snow predicted from Sunday night through to Monday evening.

“Our gritters will be out treating the roads with grit and salt where necessary in preparation for this.

“We will continue to monitor conditions and additional treatments on our gritting routes will be undertaken if needed.

“If there are any disruptions to schools on Monday 11 March, we will update our school closures page.”
