A Cricket Match
‘Talking Scarlet’s’ most recent outing to Worthing will not live long in the memory. Ayckbourn’s play about two couples in unfulfilled relationships (Miles from one part and Cecilia from the other embark on a fruitless affair in which neither concerns or bothers their respective partners) was a bland, non-event really. Not the actors’ fault, both gamely tried their best with a plot that could have been wrapped up in an hour and a script that meandered. The character changes (all character played by the two actors) seem to take an age and were obvious too, as was the unfolding storyline. Pantomime-y in places and ultimately, I’m sorry to say, a bit boring.
