Johnny Marr

NME’s latest God-like genius proved to be a man of few words, choosing instead to let his fingers do the talking, as he preached to the converted with a set made up of tracks from his new album peppered with choice selections from his back catalogue. The packed crowd were rewarded early with The Smiths’ ‘Stop Me’ on which Marr’s vocal resembled Ian Broudie. The band was tight and loud on the heavier new songs but the more melodic songs were well constructed if formulaic. Electronic’s dance classic and a brace of Smiths favourites made it all worthwhile.
