Wanted Brighton man arrested as police investigate burglary

A wanted man from Brighton was arrested by police officers responding to reports of a burglary.

Daniel Sallis, 27, of Bexhill Road, Woodingdean, was wanted for recall to prison when he was held in Withdean on Saturday night (16 March).

He was freed from prison on licence last year but was wanted for recall after breaching the terms of his release licence.

At about 10.15pm on Saturday a member of the public called Sussex Police after seeing three people climb over the fence of a house in Dyke Road Avenue in Brighton.

When officers arrived they saw three men run from the property and leave in an Audi car.

One of the officers tried to stop the men and was assaulted in the process. He suffered facial injuries.

Officers followed the car to Withdean Stadium where they found Sallis on the roof of the sports hall at the stadium.

He was arrested. The other two men are still being hunted by police.

Detective Inspector Nick Chambers, of the Brighton and Hove Priority Crime Unit, said: “Thanks to a quick-thinking member of the public, officers were able to quickly get to the scene of the burglary and make an arrest.

“We continue to investigate this incident and are appealing for anyone with information regarding the burglary or information about the other two men who were seen in the area to contact Sussex Police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Sallis has been charged with burglary and theft in Dyke Road Avenue on Saturday.

He has also been charged with escaping from lawful custody in Shoreham and two counts of receiving stolen goods on Friday 28 December.
