Rock on
Brighton’s BIMM music college seems like the place to be right now, what with ex-student Tom Odell scooping a Brit this year and now Rock God Roger Daltrey CBE becoming its first ever patron! The Who superstar, responsible for some of the definitive moments of rock ‘n’ roll history, became the face and voice of his generation. Rolling Stone listed Daltrey as one of their 100 Greatest Singers Of All Time and he’s earnt his place in both the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the UK Music Hall of Fame. Daltrey said of his new role: “I am delighted to be a patron for BIMM Brighton. BIMM is a fantastic platform for talented young musicians who are given the opportunity to thrive and grow within the music industry. I am very happy to support new music in the UK and BIMM is helping to develop and nurture future talent organically and successfully.”
Tony Wadsworth, CBE of the BIMM Group Board of Directors, added: “It is an honour.” BIMM will be celebrating Roger Daltrey’s patronage with a party and screening of The Who’s groundbreaking and critically acclaimed 1973 rock opera Quadrophenia. Get your motorbikes and left-hooks ready!
Adele’s electric birthday
It looks like Adele fell in love in Brighton way before meeting her baby-daddy Simon Konecki. Pictures recently printed in the papers showed the Skyfall juggernaut enjoying her fifth birthday party riding a fun fair electric car on Brighton seafront!
Closer to Neyo
‘Brighton bad boy’ Conor Maynard was hanging out with his mentor Neyo at the Rose Club in London recently. Maynard, who is signed to the ‘Closer’ singer’s record label, has supported the R’n’B star on his recent UK tour. They partied to mark the end of the UK leg, with Conor tweeting the next morning that they were off to Belgium – guess there’s no rest for the wicked.
Eubank’s gargantuan battle
Its been a while since we heard anything from the usually less-than-shy former boxing world champion Chris Eubank, so it’s nice to see him pop up in the press recently. The Brightonian declared war with News International after turning down their “derisory” £21,000 settlement over phone hacking. Eubank has promised a “gargantuan battle”
with the Murdoch owned company. Representing himself at the High Court in London, the sports star joked about Murdoch’s wife Wendi, who hit out at a custard-pie thrower at the House of Commons in 2011, saying: “I know that Mrs Murdoch has a pretty good left hook so I am going to ask her to be gentle with me”. We hope so too Chris, things could get out of hand…
Eat marmalade, be merry!
Congratulations to the retired micro-biologist from Brighton, Dr Yen-Chung Chong, who won best in show at the World’s Original Marmalade Awards & Festival with his brilliant ‘Bloody Merry Marmalade’. The heady mixture of blood orange and vodka bagged him the title ‘World’s Best Amateur Marmalade Maker’ – for the second time! The condiment doctor is the only person to have won the prestigious prize twice and his recipe is now being sold at Fortnum & Mason. Surely this is the only thing to have
on your toast in the morning!
