Stage: High Vis
Brighton-based writer/performer Robert Cohen will present his new one-man show High Vis at The Old Courtroom as part of the 2013 Brighton Festival Fringe.
Cohen’s new work, High Vis, is the tragicomical story of Quint, a traffic warden with issues: his life, his wife, his ‘artistic’ son, his late lamented army career – all are of concern, but his starkest issue is the airgun-wielding stalker whose unwelcome attentions have got our man restricted to base and resentfully presenting a course of training lectures.
Initially developed as part of the online satirical project Vlog Roll, Quint’s stage debut marks Robert Cohen’s return to the Old Courtroom, where he premiered The Trials of Harvey Matusow in 2010, earning a Best Actor nomination in the Latest Awards and later going on to win a FringeReview Outstanding Theatre Award for the show.
Robert’s previous roles have included Mr Pink in Reservoir Dogs (Edinburgh Festival), Stepan in BBC sitcom Ideal, Bobby Gould in David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow, the title role in Magnus Volk’s Electric Train Of Thought, and Orsino in Twelfth Night for the Festival Shakespeare Company. His many writing credits include The Ragged Regiment, recent winner of the Sussex Playwrights’ New Play competition, and Miss Givings, the one-woman musical show being performed by Debbie Bridge at the Nightingale Theatre during Fringe 2013.
“A five star acting performance… It’s almost impossible for one man to hold an audience for 90 minutes but he achieves it.”
