Brighton man, 27, sentenced for sexually assaulting a girl when he was a teenager

A 27-year-old man from Brighton has been sentenced to three years of supervision for sexually assaulting a girl.

Mark Hughes, of Stafford Road, Brighton, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for five years.

Hughes was sentenced on Thursday (5 April) having pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to a number of sexual offences, including sexual assault.

Sussex Police said that the offences took place between 10 and 15 years ago on a girl who was aged under 13.

The sentencing followed an investigation by detectives based in Brighton specialising in child protection.

Detective Constable Dave Hunt said: “No child or young person should have suffer such crimes.

“This conviction shows that even offences of this type carried out some years ago can be investigated to a successful conclusion.”
