Soundscreen
Three bands – the clashing ambient of Them The Sky, trancy indie rock of Phoria and genre-defying, dervish-fronted Written In Waters – went head to head with nine video artists offering up a diverse mix of visuals from space, abstract colours, a boy with a kite, the sea to a search for a women in polaroid photos. It was a strangely relaxing and immersive experience, despite the volume of the music, like going to the cinema without the story to follow: more to look at than a gig and more listen to than an art installation.
On the downside was the hour-long break before Phoria came on, meaning some of the audience had to leave before the end, and the final, rather graphic cannibalism video, which I could have lived without seeing right before going to bed.
