Plaits
The plait was all over the Spring/Summer Catwalks. Think variations on a theme: sideswept, fishtail, or Heidi style. Actress Hayden Panettiere was recently spotted with an old school plait that was brought bang up to date with a purple section running through to the tips. If you don’t feel brave enough to experiment with bright hair colours, try weaving brightly coloured ribbons into your plaits for a more contemporary look.
Top three plaiting tips:
• Plaiting works best if hair isn’t freshly washed.
• Apply a light or medium hold hairspray to mid-lengths and ends to give more grip when plaiting.
• Backcomb roots if you want more volume and on mid-lengths and ends if you prefer it messy.

Retro Blow-Drys
Inspired by the recent glamour fest of the Oscars and with a nod to the return of Mad Men, we love a big, bold, full-on blow dry. Enough ‘60s volume and wave was seen on the Moschino Spring/Summer runway to make Don Draper feel at home. Use curling tongs on long hair to create soft waves and curls throughout. Then, working from a side parting, gently clip the front section back from your face and clip behind your head.
Colour
Don’t be afraid to embrace your darker side during the summer months, tempting though it is to go blonde as soon as the sun appears. One of the key hues for 2013 is deep chestnut brown, which perfectly complements the sleeker 1920’s hairstyles.
