Hardeep Singh Kohli – Indian Takeaway
A comedy show with a difference, this night with Hardeep was intimate, charming and fun. Audience interaction is part of the concept: we order a curry from a local takeaway while Hardeep attempts to make his own concoction on stage, with audience members then voting on their favourite curry – while blindfolded. A history of the curry followed – from the British origin of the tikka masala to Hardeep’s own working in an Indian restaurant. From his Catholic school uniform (“I looked like a tree!”) to his being bullied as a child (“They called me Aladdin – he was Persian and his best friend was a monkey!”) this was a lesson of three C’s: culture, cuisine and comedy. Hardeep is my favourite red hot chilli pepper – and I think he’ll be ok with me saying that.
