The Brighton Music Awards
The Brighton Music Awards a.k.a. ‘The Brights’ was established in 2010 by local born international composer & record producer David Courtney together musician & producer Paul Mex to celebrate, & reward the best independent music across the Sussex region. The first awards took place in 2010 at the East Wing Brighton Centre and was attended by ‘Rock n Roll’ royalty in the form of guest presenters including ‘Roger Daltrey’ ‘Jimmy Page’ ‘Arthur Brown’ & ‘War of the World’s composer & producer Jeff Wayne. It was decided from the outset for the nominations in each category to be voted for by music fans across the region rather than by committee which has proven to be a great success having received well in excess of 5,000 votes. David Courtney says: “It has been very rewarding to see the awards come to fruition and to be involved with what I have always referred to as the New Music Generation of which there is an abundance of in the south with Brighton as a creative hotbed for musicians, producers, writers, venues and associated organisations & publications. It has always been the intention for the BMA to become a catalyst for the independent music sector in the south not only to embrace, encourage and inspire new music talent but to establish a much needed network dedicated to the sector with the annual awards as the pinnacle event.”
