Denise Black’s Loose Screw

With sassiness in spades and a brace of fine musicians to accompany her, Denise Black was on sparkling form, attacking her material with verve and class, and not a little brass. It seems invidious to single out individual performers, but singer Matt Gunn and The Woodlark Duo added a lovely tang of melancholy to the proceedings. Some fabulous guitar work from Graeme Taylor was the icing on the cake. The show’s final number, a truly beautiful cover of Randy Newman’s, ‘Feels Like Home’, had both me and my companion’s eyes misting up. Be sure to catch Denise next time she breezes into to town.
