Loudain Wainwright III
There’s a strange dichotomy to Wainwrights work, the blatantly comic songs jammed up against some of the most touchingly tender. One minute bizarre, the next gentle and lyrical. He is now contemplating life as an older man, mocking his own youth and facing infirmities and loss of libido with his usual dry charm. And it works as well as it ever did, which is very well. The voice is as versatile as ever, the guitar as fluent and now he has added readings of his father’s writings for Life magazine which add a touching extra level to his clearly autobiographical work. A first class evening from a folk legend.
