Marine Life: Brighton Marina’s Kirsty Pollard gets to the heart of a very special event

This Sunday 12 May will be the Sussex Heart Charity’s 21st Annual Sponsored Walk. This event has enabled the charity based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital to enhance cardiac care and develop new treatments of heart disease throughout Sussex.

The walk will start at 10am from Brighton Marina (registration from 9.15am) at the front of the Rendezvous Casino (opposite Cineworld Cinema) and follows a route to the Peace Statue in Hove then back to Brighton Marina, five miles in all.

Thanks to last year’s supporters an amazing £26,000 was raised. This bought the total raised at Brighton Marina since 1992 to over £350,000. These events make a major impact on services offered and have been instrumental on the development of new initiatives such as:

• Defibrillators in ambulances and wards
• Monitoring equipment on cardiac units
• A first rate Cardiac Rehabilitation service
• A resuscitation training department that provides vital training to hospital medical and surgical staff
• Specialist Heart Failure rehabilitation team
• A thriving Cardiology Research Unit involved in international research projects
• A growing number of community-based cardiac exercise classes
• Over 40 Automated External Defibrillators in various locations throughout Sussex
• Over 118,000 people in Sussex have been taught how to save a life through Heartguard Resuscitation Scheme.

This popular annual event is supported by us along with our friends at Rendezvous Casino. There is still time for you to get involved. Register online at www.sussexheartcharity.org/events or
