Cirque Éloize – Cirkopolis
Conceptually inspired by the dystopian films Metropolis and Brazil, Cirque Éloize were spectacular, utilising dance, theatre and circus skills to dazzling effect, contrasting with an industrial backdrop beautifully. One didn’t know where to look, with 12 talented performers impressing at the same time, leaping around to a cacophonous original score. Varied and well paced, there was grace in the female Cyr wheel parts, followed by incredible physicality in the male German wheel section, romance in dance, fun in diabolo, and creativity in the humorous highlight with a couple courting whilst dancing on a clothes rail. Exciting, innovative and truly memorable.
