Knife-wielding robber holds up two Brighton shops

An armed robber stole money from two Brighton shops over the bank holiday weekend.

The knife-wielding robber threatened staff at the Co-op store in Carden Avenue in Hollingbury at about 9.45pm yesterday (Monday 6 May), shortly before the shop was due to shut.

The same man was believed to have been the robber who threatened a woman staff member in Threshers off-licence in St George’s Road in Kemp Town 24 hours earlier.

After stealing money – also at about 9.45pm, shortly before the shop was due to close – he made off along St George’s Road towards the centre of Brighton.

Sussex Police said that the two robberies were believed to be linked.

The suspect was described as a stocky white man, about 5ft 10in tall, with curly blond hair and between 30 and 40 years old.

He was wearing a grey hooded top, dark trousers and dark shoes.

Anyone who saw either robbery or a man matching his description in the area is asked to call Sussex Police on 101.
