Richard Cupidi
Richard Cupidi ran The Public House Bookshop in Little Preston Street, a Brighton institution for over 25 years. His talk about how the bookshop started and what it was like to work there was full of pleasant anecdotes about events they’d put on and extracts from letters he received from former staff. It was obviously of particular interest for those who remembered it, as most of the audience did, but there was something for anyone else with a love of independent bookshops. The talk felt rather rushed, though, and it ended a bit abruptly when people wanted to get into the room for the next event. Richard had the good idea to decant to the pub for more chat afterwards, and I suspect the pub might have been where the most fun stories came out.
