Sarah Jane Morris & Antonio Forcione
This new pairing of voice and guitar was introduced by Ms Morris as uneasy listening, and with original songs covering abused sex workers, the effect of Catholicism on third world countries and the plight of asylum seekers this was never going to be your standard supper club fare. However, with Forcione’s virtuoso guitar covering percussion, bass and melody duties the musicality made even the darkest subjects palatable. Well chosen covers saw Morris’s deep voice scatting on ‘Superstition’ and faithfully recreating ‘Fast Car’ and the evening ended on a high with a powerful encore of Gene MacDaniels’ ‘Compared To What’.
