Brighton man jailed for having child porn
A Brighton man has been jailed for having child porn on his computer.
Christopher Mark Leaney, 34, of Cuckmere Way in Hollingbury, was sent to prison for a year at Hove Crown Court yesterday (Thursday 9 May).
Leaney admitted 18 offences at a previous hearing. The offences involved making indecent images of children, having prohibited images and having extreme pornography.
The court was told that Leaney had 104 videos and 590 indecent images of children some of which were graded as among the most serious.
He also had four prohibited images, five extreme pornographic videos and four extreme images.
Leaney was served with a “sexual offences prevention order” which will restrict his use of the internet and access to girls under 16 until a court lifts the order.
He will also be required to register as a sex offender for ten years on his release from prison.
Sussex Police said that the prosecution followed an intelligence-led investigation by the force’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team.
Officers learnt that indecent images of children were being shared by computer from Leaney’s home.
Detectives executed a search warrant at his home and arrested him. They also seized a large quantity of forensic evidence which was examined by technical experts.
Detective Constable Jackie Keogh said: “There is no evidence to suggest that any of the images were of local children or that Leaney was committing any contact offences, either directly or online.
“But every image by its very nature shows an offence against a child and some of these images were truly appalling.”
