Micky Flanagan – Back In The Game

There is no denying Micky Flanagan is a proper geezer. He steals stuff, he calls his wife his ‘missus’ and his enviable vernacular generously scatters ‘h’s and ‘ing’s like they were pickled onions at an East End 21st birthday celebration. Deeply entrenched in his persona, that doesn’t stop him from being accessible to all, as the packed Brighton Centre laid testimony to. Revelling in the carefully observed details of life – from nudist beaches to his wife’s cooking and the 70s, these aren’t new topics but his original turn of phrase is smashing. At times the room felt too big to be comfortable, most noticeably when Flanagan tried a bit of banter with a front row member, but his material and likeabilty held the stage throughout.
