Brighton armed robbery suspect to face court today
A man charged with carrying out three armed robberies in Brighton will appear in court today (Monday 13 May).
Darren Mills, 33, of no fixed address, is accused of holding up staff at knifepoint at three shops in Brighton.
He is also accused of an attempted robbery in Kemp Town on Saturday evening (11 May) and four counts of having an offensive weapon.
He is charged with robberies at
- Threshers in St George’s Road in Kemp Town on Sunday 5 May
- the Co-op store in Carden Avenue in Hollingbury on Monday 6 May
- another branch of Threshers in St George’s Road on Thursday 9 May
Yesterday (Sunday 12 May) Sussex Police said: “Just after 10pm on Saturday 11 May a man entered the Co-op store in St George’s Road, Brighton, produced a knife and demanded cash.
“The staff refused and he ran off without taking anything.
“As the result of an immediate police search of the area, a 33-year-old man was arrested near by on suspicion of the attempted robbery.”
Mills is due to appear before Brighton magistrates this morning when he will also face a charge of escaping lawful custody on Thursday 25 April.
