Krysia Osostowicz (violin) stepped in at the last moment to rescue this concert. In place of works by Smetana, Klein and Krása, we heard Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E flat major op. 47. There was no disappointment. There were even smiles in the last movement as the tension relaxed.

After the interval, Ian Brown (piano) returned to the original programme with Pavel Haas’s delightful Suite for solo piano. The programme concluded with the abundant melodies of Dvořák’s Piano Quartet no. 2 in E flat major. We may have missed the original Jewish/Czech programme but it was still a brilliant concert.
