Education Secretary visits Brighton primary school

The Education Secretary Michael Gove has praised the headmistress and staff at a Brighton primary school.

Mr Gove made his remarks during a visit to Carlton Hill Primary School with fellow Conservative MP Simon Kirby, who represents Brighton Kemptown. The constituency includes Carlton Hill.

Mr Kirby said: “Brighton Kemptown is lucky to have a wide range of excellent schools, and Carlton Hill is certainly a great school, which is a testament to the efforts of all the staff, governors, pupils and parents.”

Carlton Hill headmistress Louise Willard said: “It was good to have the opportunity to show Michael Gove our approach to learning here at Carlton Hill.

“We are proud of our diverse school, including our fabulous pupils and staff, our rich environment as well as our creative and ambitious approach to learning.

“The Secretary of State seemed very interested in our work.”

Mr Gove said: “It was a great pleasure to meet the staff and pupils at Carlton Hill Primary School.

“I was particularly impressed by the enthusiasm and behaviour of the children and I commend Louise and the team at Carlton Hill for all their hard work.”

Mr Gove visited the school on Thursday when he also spoke at the Brighton Conference, the annual education conference for school leaders hosted by Brighton College.
