Under review: Right Clique

An illicit, dangerous, decadent and oh so fabulous freak show, mixing burlesque with bunnies, breath-taking acrobats and even a spot of magic. La Clique seized upon the term ‘variety’ and showed us what it could truly mean. Smoky (albeit with the aid of dry ice), suggestive and leaving us feeling very suggestible, the half dozen acts worked together tirelessly to entertain and amuse, pushing boundaries – the performance art burlesque prompting unease for a whole new array of reasons from the ones encountered by your usual burlesque artistes – as well as providing a couple of tantalising tasters to other shows running at The Spiegeltent. With moments that reminded us of the inadequacies of simple applause, it’s marvellous to have La Clique back in Brighton.
