Great Escape: Lord Huron
Founding member and lead vocalist Ben Schneider strode onstage sporting a cowboy hat and the Californians kicked off with a lonesome highway ballad that conjured up a desolate truck stop surrounded by tumbleweed. Their late night Americana songs featured a twanging Duane Eddy-style guitar and the drummer’s brushes on the snare beating out a railroad rhythm; like an upbeat Low Anthem. All three guitarists attacked a rockier take on the Country theme, sharing vocal duties while the drummer switched to bongos. Unfortunately the too-short set ended just as they were settling into their stride.
