Alternative Escape: Under The Influence

This night, where like-minded musicians gather to play their own songs plus a cover of a featured artist, was a highlight of the weekend. Tonight’s subject was Billy Bragg and it was a joy to watch the Great Escape headliner in the crammed upstairs bar, chatting with fans and singing along to his own songs. Local heroes The Bobby McGees topped the bill with a skewed ukelele version of ‘Milkman Of Human Kindness’, followed by a raffle with Bragg himself donating the prizes. All participants reconvened for a rousing ‘New England’, with the man himself taking to the stage for the singalong.
