Great Escape: Catalan Sounds Showcase

Punk rock is alive and well and sunning itself in Catalonia it seems. The two man L’Hereu Escampa proved this with a raucous set of pounding drums, wobbly Dan Treacey-style Catalan vocals and classic Clash riffs that saw the ex-pat audience members bouncing along to the joyful racket. With the room almost full, the spirit of ’77 continued with Aliment, whose full-throttle hardcore attack, with choppy guitars and raspy vocals spat out in English, recalled the underrated 999. A two-minute blast of a ‘Janie Jones’ style rocker ended the noisy, sweaty afternoon with a bang.
