Celebcity: Holly Willoughby’s hair story

Holly Willoughby’s hair story; Eddie Izzard takes fashion advice from Victoria Beckham; One Direction’s Niall, Davina McCall & Passenger

Celeb hair
Is there no end to Holly Willoughby’s talents? The Brighton born presenter of The Voice came second in a recent poll of the top 10 most copied celebrity hairstyles. With Cheryl Cole hitting the top spot we’re not quite sure how follicle-forward the competition claimed to be. Personally we’re more interested in the catwalk ready looks that strutted out of Brighton’s Trevor Sorbie salon last week. Stylists Anna, Rosie, Louella and Fergal presented a ‘catwalk to salon’ bloggers evening, presenting two strong looks from Autumn/Winter 2013; a Marc Jacobs 70’s inspired look and Peter Pilotto’s sporty ponytail (Fergal worked the Autumn/Winter 2013 Peter Pilotto show). Between them Anna and Fergal worked London and Paris Fashion Week across shows including Preen, Chloe, Kenzo and Hussein Chalayan. So looks like for really fashion-forward looks the only place to go is Sorbie’s! Laters Holly, darling.

Single passengers only
Congrats to Brighton boy Mike Rosenberg, AKA Passenger, for making it to number three in the UK charts with his single ‘Let Her Go’. After disbanding from the original group of the same name, Mike decided to go solo, and relocated himself down under. 2012 saw the newly solo Passenger return to the UK to tour and open for the likes of our favourite ginger Ed Sheeran and jazz vetaran Jools Holland. Over in Oz the singer-songwriter has been making waves by holding the mighty Daft Punk off the top spot with their come-back single ‘Get Lucky’ featuring Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams. Whilst we like to champion our local lad I don’t think he’ll be shifting them off the top of the UK top 40 anytime soon –we can’t enough of Daft Punk’s new sound!

On yer bike, Davina!
TV host and mum-of-three Davina McCall joined more than 300 women for the Action DIVA Sussex bike ride to raise funds for children’s charity Action Medical Research on Saturday 11 May. Despite having a heavy cold, Davina successfully tackled the 100km ‘champion’ route, the longest of a choice of three. www.action.org.uk/diva-rides

There’s only one direction
It was a sorry sight to behold when Brighton & Hove Albion lost to Crystal Palace in the play-offs and it was all witnessed by our fave Irish One Directioner – Niall Horan. The footie-lover and Derby County supporter was glued to the game while Brighton took a bashing, tweeting before the match: ‘“getting ready to sit down with a beer and watch the Brighton vs Crystal Palace game…best time of year …play-off time…” Whilst we can’t agree it was our best time of the year it is good to see the Seagulls making an attempt for promotion – here’s to next year, guys!

Eddie Izzard copies fashion icon Victoria Beckham
The immensely fabulous Eddie Izzard was in the city recently with a two-night run of his worldwide stand-up tour, Force Majeure, at the Brighton Centre. While in town, the multiple marathon-running comedian/film-star was spotted indulging in a Salmon Teriyaki and Sushi feast at Moshimo. He also enjoyed an Artistic Gel Manicure manicure at celeb-fave beauty salon, The Lanes Health & Beauty. Eddie chose the dark red Diva Chic colour as worn by Victoria Beckham to William and Kate’s wedding back in 2011. As he left, Eddie posted a twitpic of himself outside the salon and tweeted ‘Just got my nails re-done at @julieannecoates Everyone was very helpful. I keep breaking my nails – it’s the action transvestite in me!’ Eddie returns to Brighton on 1 and 2 June; can’t wait!
