Events: London 2 Brighton Challenge

Some people are not treating this Bank Holiday as a time to relax. Welcome to the 100km challenge from London to Brighton

Life is often compared to being like a marathon. When it comes to the London 2 Brighton Challenge, it is easy to see why. This one-off event, taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend, will see many people walking, jogging and puffing their way over a duration of 100km.

Starting in Richmond Upon Thames, the route of this colossal ultra marathon is open to individuals, groups of friends, sports clubs and even corporate colleagues looking to team build. Running virgin? Have no fear. This event has been carefully planned in order to accommodate people with a variety of physical abilities who wish to raise money for charity. As well as making sure to keep you directly en-route, there will be food stops at every 25km with drinks and energy snacks provided additionally.

One of the great things about the London 2 Brighton Challenge is there are a growing number of participating charities you can help raise money for. Just some of the brilliant causes you are choosing to support are Great Ormond Street Hospital, Mind, Macmillan Nurses and Save The Children. These will provide fundraising support, online sponsorship and other ideas to help you hit your challenge target. If there is an individual charity that holds a special place in your heart for any personal reason, you can still sign up and complete your 100km for the cause of your choice.

Action Challenge, the organisers behind this event, have been exposing groups, schools, corporate clients and charities to adventures like this all over the globe since 1999. They work with many of the UK’s leading charities in order to provide outstanding support and fundraising challenges. Thanks to the 2012 challenge, many are benefitting from over £1 million raised which they hope to triple this year.

If you don’t fancy setting yourself such a mammoth task for the Bank Holiday weekend, you can still get involved and cheer on friends and family either in London or Brighton. Motivate them to warm up at the start or be there at the finish to celebrate or offer a well deserved hug and a pint.
