Brighton Lions give guitars to deaf school children
Brighton Lions Club has given musical instruments worth £1,500 to Hamilton Lodge Deaf School and College.
The children at Hamilton Lodge, in Walpole Road, Brighton, have already been learning drums, music technology and keyboards.
Now thanks to the Brighton Lions they will have the chance to learn the guitar too.
The school said that the donation built on the innovative “music and the deaf” work which had been taking place at the school over the past two years.
It has included performances by Stomp and Dave Rowntree from Blur.
The Lions – and their mascot Leo the Lion – presented
- 4 guitars (electric, acoustic, bass and classical)
- 1 guitar amplifier
- 1 bass guitar amplifier
- Boomwhackers (percussion tubes)
- guitar straps
- 4 guitar cases
Brighton Lions Club president Lisa Dilloway said: “It was great to see the students’ enthusiasm to learn guitar.
“We are really pleased to be able to help with the development of music at Hamilton Lodge.
“Every child should have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument of their choice regardless of any hearing impairment or disability.”
Hamilton Lodge principal Graham Sheppard said: “The Lions are giving us great support.
“We really appreciate their commitment to help us expand our music work with our deaf students.
“The students are really excited to receive the guitars.”
