Chapel Street
This debut production, written by Luke Barnes, finds Kirsty, an ambitious school girl stifled by her surroundings, and Joe, a seemingly contented chav who’s dropped out from society, at a crossroads in their lives as they meet on a particularly rough night on Chapel Street. Imagine Brighton’s West Street and you get the picture. A split screen style delivery on stage with both individual stories intertwining and unravelling simultaneously worked well and the terrific acting gave life to the realities and expectations of youth in 21st century Britain. The weight of the ending suffered slightly due to the brevity of the time given to it but in all it was a funny and gripping production.
