Magnus Volk’s Mystery Machine

Set in the cosy setting of The Burrow, Dark Squid, inc. told the story of Magnus Volk’s strangest invention. With a mixture of sing-along sea shanties and shadow puppets, it was a delightful little play for children and adults. A nice touch was letting the children try out the puppets afterwards and they loved it. At under half an hour, it was a little on the short side, even considering children’s attention spans, and it seemed to finish rather abruptly. One niggle was that the cast, particularly the narrator, were dressed in distracting, modern clothes. Given that we were supposed to have time-travelled back to the Victorian era, period costumes would have been more appropriate or, at the very least, plain black outfits.
