The Kiosk

This captivating performance by 4Motion Dance Theatre Company showed us a world where we become technology-dependent cyborgs. There were elements reminiscent of The Terminator, where man has grown to rely on machines too much. It also reflected today’s society, so different now than just 10 years ago, with us always ‘switched on’. This dance looked at how, although we appear to have greater freedom from our digital activity, we are in fact more tied up than ever before. The payphone kiosk stood decrepit, as a symbol of how the world has changed in this wireless era. The dancing was superb, with every inch of space used to great effect. Sean Looby deserves a special mention for outstanding music and arrangement. The digital sound score was unique and effective, mirroring the pace and frantic nature of life. Captivated until the very end, I wonder how many others left wanting to turn their phone off for just one night. Could you do it?
