STELLA

This tale of political women, music and the stars spanned the breadth of the court of 18th century Britain to our 21st century Arab Spring. Starting with an abundance of technical detail regarding astronomy, this new play from Siobhán Nicholas couldn’t make up its mind as to whether it wanted to dazzle us with the science of the stars, or with the human story of revolutionary astronomer Caroline Herschel who, along with her brother, discovered the planet Uranus among her many achievements. Informative, well-staged and well acted, there is a story worth telling within here, but like the stars it clearly adores it’s difficult to make out the key features amongst the huge expanse of information presented.
