Nell Bryden
The Brooklyn songstress made a welcome return to the Studio bar with a solid, laid-back trio and a bounty of joyous new material for her versatile voice. A loathsome drunken loud-mouth tried hard to ruin the night but this was a minor blip in this excellent performance of country-flavoured originals; mostly introduced with an interesting back story. Topics including Hurricane Katrina, 911 and the death penalty were covered with passion, while love letters to New York and London were exquisitely evocative of their subjects. A rocking ‘Second Time Around’ concluded an enjoyable evening in the company of a class act.
