A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Making full use of the space, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ was a roaming production, turning the audience around and moving it from place to place – often trouping after an actor playing an instrument like a pied piper – encountering different groups of humans and fairies in each location. Although perhaps not so good for anyone who had brought a large picnic basket, it gave a real sense of the woodland location of the play and made it fun and interactive. The costumes were striking too, with the humans in a variety of tweed and the fairies going for zany fluorescent stripes and wigs. With lots of audience interaction and witty asides, Taking Flight brought out all the comedy of Shakespeare’s play.
