Seafront closed while medics treat Brighton man after 20ft fall

Brighton seafront was closed to traffic for 90 minutes while paramedics treated a man who crashed through a roof and fell 20ft.

He was flown by air ambulance to King’s College Hospital in London where he was treated for head injuries.

The emergency services were called to the seafront end of Middle Street at about 9.45am today (Monday 3 June).

They found a man, about 40 years old, who had fallen through a skylight into the basement at the Grapevine hostel in Middle Street where he was believed to be living.

A Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance landed on the beach shortly after 10am.

Sussex Police said that King’s Road – the A259 – was closed when the helicopter arrived.

The crew worked with the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) from South East Coast Ambulance Service and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

The HART paramedics are sent in when patients are in places that are hard to reach.

The man was flown to hospital and the road was reopened at about 11.30am.
