Meat Puppets
With a thirty-odd year career encompassing truly heroic narcotic doses, the creation of an early prototype for the Seattle grunge sound, two break-ups and even a spell in prison for assault, Arizona’s Kirkwood brothers’ second reunion should have had an air of failure. Instead, these cult cow-punks’ blend of country and heavy rock was met with adulation from a packed Haunt. Technically precise, with enough beefy noise to cancel out any potential genre cheese, highlights from the band’s seminal, eponymous second album (particularly an extended rock-out on their classic, ‘Lake Of Fire’) provided a memorable set from a truly groundbreaking band.
