Latest 7 announces the winner of the best Artists Open House 2013

The May 2013 Artists Open Houses Festival has been a great success – with a large number of venues reporting record visitor numbers and many have enjoyed meeting and welcoming a whole new audience to their venues. The weather was kind throughout the festival weekends and, despite the gloomy economic forecasts, sales of work for many artists have also reached record highs.

The Ceramic House Wins Best Open House Award!
A huge congratulations to The Ceramic House who took home The Latest’s Best Open House Award for 2013! The award was announced and presented at The Latest Awards event held at The Latest Music Bar on Monday night. The Ceramic House takes Artists Open Houses to a whole new level – making the house the art. Ceramicist and owner of the house, Kay Aplin has used her walls and surfaces as her canvas and the results are outstanding. As well as Kay’s work, this May The Ceramic House also boasted the work of 21 other artists. All of the exhibiting artists worked with clay and the house included installations, wall pieces, decorative ceramics, sculpture and much more.

Shortlisted Houses and Highly Commended
With 214 houses taking part in the Artists Open Houses Festival, voting took place via an online public voting system, after which the Latest’s Andrew Kay and his team visited the ten highest scoring venues over the final festival weekend and from which they selected an overall winner.

Also shortlisted for the award were Encounters and The Holistic Art House and special mentions also went to AT Open House and Dion Salvador Lloyd, all of whom attended the Latest Award event.
