Toro y Moi

It could have been so perfect. The idyllic sunset outside Concorde 2, a calm sea with perfect feel-good weather to a soundtrack which, on the whole, is likely to get you reaching for your friend’s hand and heading straight to the dance floor. But I suppose not everything can be as technicolor as the movies.

Toro y Moi is a competent and intriguing musician. Toro, aka Chazwick Bundick, has an ear for bouncy rhythms and retro-funk grooves yet ear-worm melodies or stage presence were totally amiss. He’s abandoned that often derided tag of ‘chill wave’ but, at least tonight, he has compromised charm and personality in the process.
