Woman rescued from Brighton building after roof collapses

Firefighters rescued a woman who was trapped in a house in Brighton after the roof collapsed.

They were called to the Victorian house in Stanford Avenue, near Preston Park, just before 9.40pm last night (Monday 10 June).

Some people managed to make their own way out of the property, which has been converted into flats, and one woman was helped to safety.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that crews were working to make the two-storey house safe until about 1am.

Sussex Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service were also at the scene.

Investigators are trying to find out why the roof caved in.
