Film: Man Of Steel (12A)
Director Zack Snyder, of 300 and Watchmen fame, is the latest to bring us his reinvention of the ‘Superman’ tale. With creative sidekicks such as David S. Goyer and Christopher Nolan (who brought us the more current powerful Batman trilogy) telling the story, a more sombre tone was to be expected. Add Michael Shannon as General Zod to the mix and this film was set for big things. However the only big things to arise in Man Of Steel were the drawn out scenes of explosions, glaringly obvious product placement and the black hole where the heart should have been. A cross between Thor and Independence Day, Snyder failed to match the complexity of Nolan’s Batman but delivered a perfectly good action movie for those looking for nothing more.
