Stage: The Mikado

Illyria makes a welcome return to The Hawth Amphitheatre with Gilbert and Sullivan’s wonderful comic opera. Although set in Japan, The Mikado is very much a parody of British politics, institutions and public life and is surprisingly relevant in the 21st century! It gets the complete Illyria treatment, faithfully performed by a reduced cast and accompanied by a Musical Director on keyboard.

Illyria is a award winning open air theatre company and are regular visitors to The Hawth, they will also be performing their adaptations of Babe The Sheep-Pig (Friday 21 June) and Shakespeare’s As You Like It (Thursday 8 August). Situated in a woodland setting, The Hawth’s Amphitheatre is a fantastic place to enjoy a summer’s evening. The show will go on regardless of weather conditions! Don’t forget to bring a blanket.

Friday 21 July 7pm, The Hawth Amphitheatre Tickets are priced at £13.50/£10/£8.50/£36 family of four. Box Office: 01293 553636, www.hawth.co.uk. (Booking fees apply). Pre-order a picnic for two: sandwich and choice of eight picnic snacks: £9.95. www.illyria.uk.com
