Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks

One would expect weirdness when attending a gig with members of Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors and Bordeoms, but not necessarily the rambling, too-cool-to-be-melodic mess we were subjected to. Although the group was commendably loud and experimental, the drumming was fierce and the guitar effects occasionally interesting, the songs lacked any clear sense of direction or dynamic peaks or troughs. There were even a few collapses midway through songs, reflecting the more profound condition of artistic shambles. The crowd seemed supportive in an open-minded appreciative way, but were disappointed in a genuine musical sense. Instantly forgettable.
